DUNK! – Copenhagen
Totes Meer brings together new two-dimensional and sculptural works by Dan Miller at DUNK!. Rendered through meticulous process, image and collage hover, recede and extend from the two-dimensional plane.
Through drawing, painting and sculpture Miller discusses ideas of reproductive process and failure, drawing from a range of appropriated imagery and objects. Historical fascination and rigorous process underpin an investigation into the underlying surface tensions of material.
Adopting a detailed mechanical approach, two-dimensional works are interceded with a variety of collaged references questioning appropriation and authorship. These assemblages are continuously re-configured, blurring the line between original and facsimile.
Floating without anchor, they mimic mythical figures and intangible monuments. These works are developed to form the basis of sculptural interventions, facilitating a critical evaluation of the relationship between object and image.
Since graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in 2002, Miller has shown widely in both the U.K and Europe. In 2004 he participated in the WASPS – Bonhoga Gallery Residency (Düsseldorf), culminating in a solo show at Atelier Am Eck. Other group shows have included Spacemakers at Lothringer Dreizehn (Munich) and St Synarchy at the CCA (Creative Lab Residency – The Centre For Contemporary Arts Glasgow) 2006.
Recent solo shows include Stockade (+44 141 Gallery – SWG3 – September 2007) and Zusammenströmen (Yellow 1103 Gallery – December 2007) in collaboration with Jack Gregory.
